How much time per day do you spend on your mobile phone? Do you feel an urge to check your phone every other minute? Then, congratulations!! my friend, you’ve become an addict of the tiny portable ultramodern device in your hand.
Mobile phones are the new cool in today’s generation. Your phone decides your status and place in the society. Though nobody realizes that every class of the society holds the same mobile phone. People work hard..they work in difficult situations. They earn..work hard..and earn more. And finally when they have enough money..they buy a new mobile phone!! Cool right?? Oh wow!! now I have a place in the society.
A mobile phone, though has brilliant features which make our lives easier, has in reality constricted us to itself. An average person checks his phone 100 times a day, some even more. According to a report, 40% of people use their phone while using the toilet and 56% while driving. Another report says that 60% people use their phone before going to sleep, and there are many who do not even sleep. This gadget has surely become the new drug.
But what is the solution? How can we overcome this addiction? The answer is, we cannot! At least not so easily. Mobile phones have distanced us from our near ones. Yeah sure! but they have distanced us from ourselves too. Once parted from our phones, we become self suffocated individuals who do not know what to do or where to go. A person when kept away from his phone, instantly shows withdrawal symptoms. He gets anxiety attacks and even feels suicidal. There are hundreds of examples of crimes because of mobile phones in the media.
The new media is eating up the new generation. And it surely needs to be looked upon. In the process of making our lives easier, mobile phone has made it much complicated. We are trapped in a pit with temptations of a newer, safer world and have lost track of the real world.
It is time that we go back to the era of letters and postcards. If not that, we can at least try to get hold of the present. The path is difficult, no doubt! But then, we are a generation full of zeal and enthusiasm, the ones with adrenaline rushing in blood. Every new challenge excites us. Then why not this one!!?? Because no matter how addictive a mobile phone is, at the end of the day, it’s just a device, a facility, not even a basic need which we cannot survive without.
