Sharma ‘RO’-hits England out of the park

Team India won the game comfortably by 7 wickets as they chased down a big target of 199. India won the toss and elected to field first:

  • England’s opener Jason Roy top scored for England with a 67 (31) smashing 4 fours and 7 sixes.

  • Jos Buttler (35), Alex Hales (30) and Jonny Bairstow (25) were the other two significant contributors.

  • The Indian bowlers were expensive, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up his career best 4/38.

  • MS Dhoni became the only wicket-keeper to take 5 catches in T20Is, he also effected a run-out on the last ball of the 20th over.

  • India needed 199 to win both the match and the series.

  • Rohit Sharma became the only second player to score 3 T20 hundreds, his other two are against South Africa and Sri Lanka. Colin Munro is the only player ahead of him.

  • Virat Kohli played the anchors role as he scored 43 (29) hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes.

  • Hardik Pandya was promoted up the order and he responded with a 33 off 14 balls, 4 fours and 2 sixes. He also hit the winning six and India won the game with 8 balls to spare.

  • Rohit Sharma was awarded both the player of the match and series awards.

  • India have never lost a 3 match T20 series, this was their 8th series win.
